In his book The Spice and Herb Bible, Ian Hemphill tells us that in order to ward off diseases; garlic was part of the power of the workers who built the Egyptian pyramids. Archaeologists have also found cinnamon in Egyptian tombs dating from 3000 BC.AD, as according to the belief, the smell was appreciated by the gods.
The clove was, in turn, was used by the Chinese for its anesthetic and antiseptic properties. Turmeric, meanwhile, is used in Ayurvedic medicine for skin problems, and recent research has also demonstrated its effectiveness in preventing cancer.
In India, the use of Ayurvedic medicine is dominant, it also uses some spices for therapeutic purposes. Ayurveda can be considered the oldest medical tradition in the world to have survived today. This holistic system has been making an extensive use of clove for thousands of years to fight against certain types of infections.
